NOW HIRING: Environmental Health Technician (Water Quality)
Under direction of a Section Supervisor, the Water Quality Homes Environmental Health Technician assists with the reporting of environmental public health observations, educating the public or other duties that do not require application of specialized knowledge and skills in environmental health science performed under the supervision of a registered sanitarian.
This position focuses on providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Franklin County Public Health.
Duties Include:
- Plans and conducts environmental public health observations of residential and commercial properties and public facilities to determine compliance with applicable public health codes, regulations, and orders issued by the Franklin County Board of Health or the Director of the Ohio Department of Health.
- Uses standards and procedures for property research, observations, report writing, and completion and compilation of reports.
- Conducts observations of existing Household Sewage Treatment Systems (HSTS) in the FCPH Water Quality Operation and Maintenance program.
- Conducts Geographic Information System (GIS) location of existing HSTS.
- Conduct Healthy Homes Assessments as assigned by co-grantee agencies.
- Interacts with the public in an educational capacity regarding environmental public health codes, standards, and procedures for compliance. Routine interaction with citizens, vendors, clients, patrons, and applicants to gather and process information; cooperative/ coordinating responsibility with other departments.
- This position utilizes appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.
- Performs public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with job classification and training provided, in response to threats to the public’s health.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Completion of secondary education (high school) or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience at an agency performing enforcement and educational activities is preferred.
- Required valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet insurability requirements.
- Applicants who are skilled in conversational Spanish, Somali, or Arabic preferred.
- Some evening and weekend hours required.
Hiring Wage: $20.00/hour - $24.06/hour. This is a non-exempt position.
