Employment Category: Temporary Employment

Hours: 8 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Pay Range: Based on experience.  

Grant Funded: Partially, continuation of position may be dependent upon grant funding.

Benefits: Enrollment in Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.

Essential Duties:

  • Under direct supervision of the Administrator, the Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) functions as a member of the Environmental Health (EH) team. A REHS is responsible for providing Environmental Health services to the public, which includes education and training as a strategy to achieve compliance of regulated entities to pertinent environmental health codes and healthy practices.
  • Duties further include providing a variety of environmental health services within the Morgan County community including:
    • Inspection and consultation in the following programs: food safety, public swimming pools, nuisances, body art, campground & manufactured home parks, rabies investigation, and private water & sewage treatment systems.

Minimum Experience/Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in environmental health, biology or science related field, and meet the requirements of the Ohio Department of Health to become a REHS or REHS-IT.
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and have reliable transportation with ongoing proof of auto insurance.
  • Must have ability to use computer applications such as MS Word and Excel software; ability to operate various office equipment; and learn agency software programs.
  • Must have willingness to learn new skills and be adaptable/flexible.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity.
