Position: Public Health Nurse
Employment Status: Non-Exempt, Full time (40 hrs/wk)
Wage: Hourly, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Medina County Health Department, a nationally accredited health department, has a full-time opening for a Public Health Nurse (PHN). The PHN participates in public health programs including immunizations, communicable disease control, services to children with medical handicaps, health screenings, and selected grant-sponsored programs.
The primary role for this position is within our Health Center Clinic.
General Qualifications (including but not limited to):
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio; Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university required. Minimum two years of nursing experience required; Current CPR Certification; Prior experience in Public Health Nursing or Community Health Nursing setting is preferred.
Essential Functions of the Position include but are not limited to:
- Knowledge of the Ohio communicable disease laws and reporting requirements.
- Conducts disease investigation; activate appropriate control measures and prevention plans.
- Conduct outreach and surveillance activities based on public health priorities.
- Knowledge of public health science including basic epidemiology and biostatistics
- Knowledge of the principles of prevention and disease transmission in populations and individuals
- Identifies current trends affecting the health of a community.
- Retrieves evidence from print and electronic sources to support decision making.
- In general clinic, perform blood draws, place and read TB tests, immunizations, assist providers, inventory, ordering, and patient referrals.
