Registered Environmental Health Specialist

Galion City Health Department

The Galion City Board of Health is seeking qualified applicants for a contracted position of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (formerly registered sanitarian).  This is a contract for an average of 10 hours a week (with flexibility to fit the REHS work schedule) through June 30, 2023 to assist in completing the inspections of licensed food service operations and retail food establishments within the City of Galion.  This is a workforce development grant funded position with a possibility of future funding as well.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Health the REHS will provide professional environmental food safety inspections as required by the Ohio Food Code, provide timely reports in the web-based program HealthSpace, provide a respectful, professional dialogue with the operators to convey violations, food safety education, and options for corrective action.

Minimum Qualifications

• A valid REHS license issued by the Ohio Department of Health
• A valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license/insurance
• Basic computer literacy (email, internet, MS Office Suite)

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of public health
• Basic knowledge of environmental health
• Knowledge of communicable diseases
• Experience in food safety inspections
• Knowledge of the Ohio Food Code

Contract

• The contract will be $37/hour but no more than $19,500 for the remainder of the contract (averaging 20 hours per every 2 weeks or as the inspections fit into his/her schedule ie…evenings, weekends) with no benefits, and contractor will be responsible for his/her own taxes, and vehicle/mileage.
