Health Commissioner
Knox Public Health
Knox Public Health, which serves all of Knox County, is seeking a candidate to serve as Health Commissioner.
Responsibilities of the Health Commissioner include but are not limited to:
- Serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Knox County General Health District
- Implementing the lawful orders of the Knox County Board of Health and the State Department of Health
- Leading the operation, management, and promotion of the Knox County General Health District
- Ensuring that all programs and activities of Knox Public Health are conducted in full accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, the policies of the Board of Health, and accepted managerial procedures and practices.
- Serving as a liaison with related local and state agencies
- Keeping the public informed in regard to all matters related to Public Health
The Commissioner shall be responsible and accountable to the Board of Health and serves as its secretary. The Commissioner shall have supervisory charge and control of all employees and programs of the General Health District.
Requirements/Qualifications: A licensed physician, licensed dentist, a licensed veterinarian, licensed podiatrist, licensed chiropractor, or the holder of a master’s degree in public health or an equivalent master’s degree in a related health field as determined by the members of the board of health (ORC 3709.11).
Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience in leadership and/or management in public health or related field, preferred. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in public service.
- Experience working with Board members, staff and other stakeholders to develop and articulate a vision for public health.
- Involvement with implementing public health initiatives.
- Participating, guiding and collaborating with the community and organization in seeking policy change and action on public health issues.
- Experience with public health accreditation.
- Experience with the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Centers
This position is an exempt, full-time position that requires working evenings and/or weekends as necessary.
