Help Me Grow Home Visitor

Position: Classified, benefits-eligible based on hours
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: Range is $15.99-$24.95 per hour commensurate with experience and skills
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Help Me Grow (HMG) Supervisor or Program Manager (Director of Family and Child Development), the Home Visitor will provide regular and long-term (prenatal up to age 3) home visiting family support for pregnant women and new parents in accordance with Ohio Rule. The visits will take place primarily in the family’s home and will be family-centered and strength based utilizing the Healthy Families America (HFA) model in coordination with the Growing Great Kids (GGK) Curriculum. The Home Visitor works to establish a trusting relationship with the families. This then allows the home visitor to help cultivate and strengthen the parent-child relationship while promoting healthy growth and development for babies and young children to the age of 3 through parent education, developmental screenings and linkage with local resources as needed. The Home Visitor will assist families in meeting their family goals and will coordinate services to the family and become a major support for the parent(s).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- At least an Associate's Degree in human services or a field closely related to early childhood or a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of one-year experience working with pregnant women, infants or toddlers.
- Must obtain within the first year of employment and maintain a Help Me Grow Home Visitor Credential with the State of Ohio.
- Undergo a criminal background check with the Ohio bureau of criminal identification and investigation and a background check with the Ohio central registry on child abuse and neglect.
- A valid Ohio driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets the insurability requirements of the District’s insurance provider. Must be able to provide a private vehicle for job use.
Preferred:
- Current HMG Home Visiting Credential with at least one-year home visiting experience or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood or a related field.
- Experience/Training in working with the HFA Home Visiting model and the GGK Curriculum
- Experience in working with or providing services to children and families
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of interviewing, counseling, education techniques, infant & child development and screenings, Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, community resources and services, human and public relations and case management. Use of modern office equipment and software including use of computer for state required data entry. Open to reflective practice and possess the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form and establish trusting relationships. Ability to perform duties in various work environments within private homes and various weather conditions. Must also demonstrate the ability to prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports. Ability to provide emotional support, encouragement and motivation to families in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.
