Public Health Nurse (immunizations)

Union County Health Department

Full-Time, Classified, Hourly, Non-Exempt.  37.50 hours per week, Monday – Friday.  The pay range for this position is $17.70 - $30.18 per hour, based on experience.  Partial funding for this position is provided by the Get Vaccinated Ohio grant.

Provide direct nursing care in clinics. Obtain intake information; complete prep work; prepare patient for clinical procedures; set up procedure tray, supplies, and medications; alert health care provider of patient readiness; and administer oral medication and intramuscular injections and medications. Assist with patient assessment, examinations, and treatments. Promote and provide education on various health topics and fulfill patient requests for information. Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing; clean lab and exam rooms; and dispose of medical waste. Assist with inventory control and security, refrigerator checks, and ordering clinic supplies and medications; prepare and/or provide clinical follow-up; and input patient data for mandatory reporting purposes. Serve as the lead for the Immunization program. Plan, develop, manage, and evaluate the program; ensure compliance with state and local guidelines; recommend changes to clinic services, materials, or operations; and coordinate and facilitate provision of back-to-school adolescent immunizations. Write, assess, and manage program deliverables for the Get Vaccinated Ohio Program grant. Conduct financial and programmatic tracking and reporting, communicate with funding sources, complete necessary documentation, and oversee/monitor related projects/activities.

Must be detail oriented; organized; possess strong oral and written communication skills and listening skills, excellent time management skills, strong customer service skills, ability to multi-task, and work well as part of a team.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a basic knowledge of electronic medical record systems necessary.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); or an Associate’s Degree and 1-3 years of direct nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience required.  An unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse license; CPR certified for adults, children, and infants; and ability to maintain licensure and certification required.  A valid Ohio Driver’s License, valid auto liability insurance, the ability to maintain auto liability insurance, and the ability to maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy essential.  Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with assistant required.  Previous experience working in a public health environment, administering and inventorying immunizations, and program coordination are beneficial.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) and 3-7 years of direct experience, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) and 3 or more years of direct experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience preferred.
