Salary Range:

$24.00 to $35.00

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct, skilled nursing services to provide a wide variety of services for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients (i.e. Cribs for Kids Safe Sleep, Get Vaccinated Ohio, Infectious Disease Surveillance, Well Child Clinics, Complex Medical Help, Immunization Clinics, community education, and WIC clinics).
  • Assists with mandated Ohio Department of Health required programs.
  • Assists and utilizes the nursing process to determine special health care needs, develops nursing care plans based on assessment data, observations, and nursing diagnosis.
  • Assesses environments, counsels client in health care matters, and administers medications and treatment under medical direction.
  • Collects specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Collaborates with other staff nurses and Public Health Assistants to implement necessary care.
  • Counsels individuals in appropriate health behaviors including family planning.
  • Promotes public health education and disease prevention.
  • Acts as a health advocate for individuals, families and the community.
  • Provides assistance as necessary for the investigation of communicable diseases.
  • Follows all HIPAA provisions concerning confidential information. 
  • Completes other special projects or duties as assigned.
  • Participates in public health experience of nursing and medical students, interns and residents.
  • May conduct or coordinate special projects as assigned.
  • Serves on relevant local community and interagency committees (i.e. Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) committees).
  • Participates in community health needs assessment process.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities.
  • Participates in equipment checks.
  • Documents all activities and findings in accordance with agency policy.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports.
  • Participates in continuing education programs and self-directed education to keep skills and knowledge current.
  • May perform administrative tasks such as pulling patient charts and or scheduling patient appointments.
  • Serves as liaison with others in the organization and conducts and/or attends meetings
  • Serves as member or leader of problem-solving teams or groups.
  • Cooperates with other community agencies to provide health education and promote health services.
  • Assists with training and orientation of new employees.
  • Willing to assume the responsibilities of co-workers in their absences.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
  • Communicates according to situational or organizational structure.
  • Notifies supervisor of any treatment that may affect decision-making.
  • Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
  • Adhere to the Public Health Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and current auto liability insurance.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS)/ Incident Command System (ICS) 100.b, 700.a, and 200.c certification within 1 month of employment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General medical office setting in health department facilities.
  • Some clinics require work within community facilities. 
  • Additional work hours may be required based on program demands and requirements.
  • Travel within and outside the district as required.
