Nutrition Supervisor

Description:  Lorain County Public Health WIC is hiring a Nutrition Supervisor in the WIC Division that is a split administrative and clinical position with a typical workday of Monday – Friday, 8:00 to 4:30 pm with evenings and weekends as needed. 

FUNCTION

Under general supervision of the WIC Director, is responsible for supervising personnel, guiding nutrition education, managing our satellite site, assisting with community outreach and engagement, and working in the clinic on the WIC program.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Hire, supervise, train, observe, conduct frequent chart review, and evaluate WIC Health Professional team members.
  2. Provide oversight and implementation of WIC nutrition education policy and procedures.
  3. Conduct nutrition counseling to WIC participants individually and/or in group sessions regarding normal nutritional needs including breastfeeding; establishes individual nutrition goals; complete necessary documentation in the medical record.
  4. Manage a budget and make supply purchases for nutrition education and breastfeeding teams.
  5. Assist with certification/recertification of WIC participants; prescribes appropriate food packages and makes healthcare referrals; guides formula decisions, and when necessary, assists in obtaining medical data (heights, weights, and hematocrits).
  6. Oversight of nutrition education plan including modules, newsletters, outreach information, etc.
  7. Assist with outreach efforts including, but not limited to, website, social media, fax, Zoom, and text.
  8. Represent LCPH at events or on committees that support maternal child health objectives.
  9. Manage satellite clinics including staff/participant issues and schedules, site operations, and communication with ODH.
  10. Compile statistics and data needed for reports; track inventory; build the Nutrition Education Plan.
  11. Attend state and local WIC meetings as required.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the WIC Director.
  13. Report upon directive in an emergency.

MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of:  Current research-based nutrition and breastfeeding recommendations; WIC/agency policies and procedures; counseling practices and procedures; agency strategic priorities; maternal child health resources;

Ability to:  Supervise, support and work through staff situations; express nutrition principles in written or oral form to individuals and groups; form community partnerships; communicate and promote WIC through various forms of media; manage a budget; handle challenging participants; provide excellent customer service; maintain a positive work environment; be a team player.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or other similar science; Registered Dietitian license from the Ohio Board of Dietetics; Minimum of 5 years of experience working with the WIC program.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:   Personal vehicle required. Requires some, mostly local, travel between clinic sites.  Physically able to stock supplies, move charts/people around the WIC clinic, and do light cleaning of office space.

SALARY: Professional Grade 5
