Director of Environmental Health Services

Allen County Public Health

37.50 hours/week
Service Area: Environmental Health Services
Reports to: Health Commissioner
Salary: Pay Range 30 ($25.72/hour)          

Under general direction of the Health Commissioner, the Director of Environmental Health leads the activities of environmental health services to ensure programs are operated in compliance with program standards, state laws and rules, and Board of Health adopted policies and regulations.  Sets and monitors section goals and assures coordination and evaluation of services to ensure quality.

Sample Job Responsibilities:

• Plans for, directs, and evaluates the programs of the Environmental Health Services section to ensure quality and compliance
• Establishes criteria and standards to ensure efficient and effective program service delivery; assumes responsibility for achieving program goals
• Takes matters to the Board of Health, as necessary, for resolution
• Supervises personnel within the Environmental Health Services section to ensure proper staffing, delegation of responsibility, and quality performance
• Ensures environmental health programs and services are operated within budget
• Serves as the Division’s spokesperson communicating environmental health information to the media and the community

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or related field required, Master’s degree in Public Health or related field, or Certified in Public Health preferred
• Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Registered Sanitarian; some supervisory experience required 
• Valid and unrestricted registration as a Sanitarian in the State of Ohio
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and proof of auto liability insurance coverage

Working Conditions:

• Occasional overtime, night or weekend hours may be required
• Travel within and outside the district sometimes required
