Summary

The Medical Director is responsible for the development and evaluation of standards of medical care throughout the department, providing medical direction to clinical staff, and advising the department in matters of medical policy. Meets regularly with the Board of Health and advises the Board on medical policy. This is a part­time, contract position. This position reports to the Health Commissioner.

Professional Competencies

·        Physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Ohio

·        Must meet all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the department liability insurance carrier.

·        Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check with a record that is free from a criminal record that would prohibit employment by the department.

·        Knowledge of medical science and its application to public health practice, principles and practice of public health administration, and the laws governing public health practice.

·        Knowledge of current communicable diseases, their symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment as well as epidemiology and disease surveillance systems.

FCHD office is a smoke free building; employees are prohibited from smoking anywhere on the property.

Physical Activity: Reaching, standing, walking, touching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work, light work

Visual Activity: Close to the eyes, at or within arm’s reach

Employee could be in contact with patients and blood borne pathogens in an emergency situation requiring clinical attention.

Driving to visit other offices, attend meetings, and to present information to groups and agencies in various locations and settings.

Frequent telephone conversations, face to face discussions, and contact with others.

Will be expected to respond to public health emergencies.

May require nontraditional working hours on occasion.

Must attend at least one medical conference each year sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health.

Should already have an NPI number. Credentialing with various insurance providers is preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

MD or DO degree.

Training in Emergency Preparedness to be completed upon hiring.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Licensed Physician (Ohio) Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
