Position: Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)/Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training (EHSIT)
Reports to: REHS Supervisor
Position to be filled: July 18, 2022 .
Salary: $41,149 (EHSIT)/$46,991 (REHS)
Hours: Mon. – Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Flexible Work Arrangements: Alternate work schedule or changes in work schedule available after initial training period with approval. Core work hours of 10am to 2pm required of all staff. Remote work from home available up to two days per week with approval after the completion of a minimum of 60 days of employment.
Vaccine Policy: Effective November 1, 2021 all new hires will need to meet COVID and Influenza vaccine requirements or request an exemption as outlined in the CCBH Vaccination Policy.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with science related coursework (i.e., biology, chemistry, geology, and/or environmental health) which meets the educational requirements set forth by Chapter 4736 of the Ohio Revised Code.
- For Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
- Valid State of Ohio registration in accordance with Chapter 4736 of the Ohio Revised Code.
- Minimum of two years of experience as an EHSIT.
- For Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training (EHSIT)
- Meets educational requirements necessary to make application to the Environmental Health Specialist Program at the Ohio Department of Health for registration as a EHSIT.
- No experience necessary.
- Good customer service, verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity and competence.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of fundamental software (i.e. Microsoft Office), email, and use of other basic office equipment.
- Proficiency with use of databases for data querying and reporting.
- Ability to serve as a member of a team.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with ongoing proof of state mandated auto insurance.
Responsibilities:
May include but not limited to:
- Performs or assists with inspections on various premises, facilities and environmental health systems to ensure compliance with state and local laws.
- Performs or assists with illness investigations.
- Documents agency inspection and investigation activities; prepares and maintains records and reports of daily activities.
- Engages in training activities to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to perform public health enforcement activities.
- Educates operators and the general public on pertinent environmental health programs and prevention techniques.
- Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor, Deputy Director and/or Director.
- Participates as needed or requested in the event of any public health emergency.
