JOB SUMMARY
The WIC Nutritionist works in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. This position determines WIC eligibility, completes WIC certifications and provides nutrition education to WIC program participants and the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The WIC Nutritionist determines WIC eligibility, completes WIC certifications and provides nutrition education to WIC program participants and the community. Job duties include but are not limited to: collect and assess WIC participant anthropometric measurements, blood data and health histories to determine WIC eligibility, provide appropriate nutrition and breastfeeding counseling that is responsive to the identified needs/interests of each participant, prescribe food packages appropriate for the needs of the participant and accordance with state policy, function as part of the WIC breastfeeding support team, and plan secondary nutrition education activities. Attends outreach events in the community and perform certification requirements at outreach events.
EDUCATION
This job requires a 1) associate’s degree or higher in dietetics, and 2) Registered Dietitian (RD) certification and Licensed Dietitian (LD) certification or Diet Technician Registered (DTR) certification by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR). If you are currently working on a RD/LD or DTR by the Commission of Dietetic Registration it must be completed by the end of the 6 month probationary period.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
This job requires proficiency of computers skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Reader, e-mail, electronic calendar, social media (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) and internet research; ability to compile, consolidate and summarize information; English grammar, spelling, written format and punctuation; effective verbal and written communication skills; knowledge and use of participant centered counseling; experience with underserved and low-income populations; ability to work independently and as part of a team both in a dependable manner; knowledge of community resources; be able to effusively deal with stress; ability to learn and use a web-based reporting program for completing on-line reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agency and organization representatives; perform effective public speaking to groups of varied interests and backgrounds and develop and deliver informative and persuasive presentations, counseling, and brief interventions. The job requires recordkeeping and reporting procedures; principles and practices of grant management and grant seeking; collection of data/research and analysis of statistics, design, implementation and evaluation of health-related programs. This job requires the ability to meet multiple deadlines, excellent organizational skills, and adhere to confidentiality requirements. This job requires working some evenings and weekends.
