Eating healthy and being physically active are known to improve overall health and reduce the risk of preventable disease. Local health departments can play a significant role in helping their communities create environments where the healthy choice becomes the easier choice by making healthy foods accessible and affordable and ensuring that physical activity is safe and convenient. The HEAL Implementation Toolkit provides local health departments in Ohio with the resources needed to help implement sustainable, evidenced based local policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change strategies in their communities. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) promotes healthy eating and active living across the lifespan and administers programming through both the Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness (BHIW) and the Bureau of Maternal, Child, and Family Health (BMCFH). This toolkit was developed by ODH staff in BHIW and BMCFH in collaboration with members of the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners.
