AOHC Statement on Veto Override of Senate Bill 22

AOHC Statement on Veto Override of Senate Bill 22

The Association of Ohio Health Commissioners (AOHC) is deeply disappointed that the Ohio General Assembly has voted to override Governor DeWine’s veto of Senate Bill 22.  We believe SB 22 is a dangerous bill that will take away essential tools from state and local health officials not only to respond to a once in a hundred year pandemics, but also to the various public health threats that confront Ohioans every day.  Since SB 22 was first amended to revoke a local  health districts’ ability to protect their citizens, health commissioners have proactively reached out to members of the legislature to educate them about these harmful provisions.  We will continue to work with the legislature to discuss the real-world implications of the bill and find legislative solutions to undo the many unintended consequences that SB 22 creates.
