Epidemiologist II
The Epidemiologist II will oversee public health program data, including statistical analysis, health care planning, surveillance systems, and public health assessment and improvement plans. Identify public health problems pertinent to the population; conduct surveillance activities; investigate acute and chronic conditions or other adverse health outcomes in the population.
Duties Include:
- Applying principles of good ethical/legal practice as they relate to study design and data collection, dissemination, and use.
- Use of critical thinking to determine whether a public health problem exists.
- Willingness to collaborate with others inside and outside the agency to identify health related problem and form recommendations.
- Managing data from surveillance investigations and analyze data from an epidemiologic investigation, study or other sources. Summarizing results of the analysis, and drawing conclusions.
- Recommending evidence-based interventions and control measures in response to epidemiologic findings.
- Collaborating with programs to direct the study of public health problems to find ways to prevent and to treat the problems, via the collection and analysis of data, including using observations, interviews, and surveys of health problems, health disparities and the social determinants of health.
- Evaluation of programs; by assisting in the development of measurable and program-relevant goals and objectives; assisting in the development of program logic models and theories of action; identifying surveillance and other data for use in tracking program objectives and outcomes; communicating information about progress toward program objectives and outcomes to program supervisors and staff for use in program planning and modification.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree with a focus in epidemiology required;
- At least 2 years’ work experience in epidemiology in a public health agency preferred;
- Previous knowledge in community health assessment, strategic planning, analyzing statistical information; or equivalent preferred.
