POSITION: Environmental Health Intern for Mosquito Control Program
STATUS: Temporary Status - Up to 24 hours per week (Monday-Friday) may
include evening work. Position runs from May 14th – August 24th for a total of
16 weeks.
Pay: $10.00 to $11.00/hour
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Investigate nuisance mosquito complaints.
- Educate residents of steps for mosquito abatement.
- Collect mosquito larvae and/or adults for data analysis.
- Assist with larvicide applications (ditches, package plants, catch-basins, etc.).
- Assist with adulticide applications as needed (night spray, complaint abatement).
- Execute evening adulticiding treatments as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of mosquito treatment methods.
- Maintain and store equipment responsibly.
- Complete other mosquito control related tasks as needed.
EDUCATION:
- Qualified applicants should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or a graduate degree in public health or a related field.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid Ohio driver's license, in good standing.
- Must be able to drive a full-size truck.
- Must be a dependable individual.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and maps, ability to add and subtract whole numbers, and understand the safe handling of pesticides.
- Must have an understanding of basic biology or science, and be capable of learning to respond to questions and concerns from the general public.
- The Environmental Health Intern assists in the operation of Kent Mosquito Control Program and must display initiative. Must follow through on completing tasks; be reliable, mature and adaptable; relate successfully with the community and coworkers regardless of their social, ethnic, or religious status; comply with agency objectives, philosophy and policies.
