Environmental Health Director

Geauga Public Health

Hours: Full-time position, 40 hours per week, normal business hours Monday thru Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM; this position that will require evening and weekend hours to address environmental health concerns in the community.

Responsibilities: Position requires experience in all agency environmental health programs, including enforcement of State and local codes, ensuring local compliance with applicable laws, development and implementation of new rules and policies associated with environmental health law, and assuring that the agency meets State standards required by oversight agencies for mandated programs.

Position has direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities for all staff assigned to the environmental health division, including recommendations for hiring and firing, disciplining, performance evaluation, and assigning work load to staff members.   Some budgeting and cost analysis preparation is required.

Qualifications: Must be a Registered Sanitarian (RS) in the State of Ohio.  A Master’s degree in a public health or related field is preferred but not required. The position requires candidate to have 10 years of field experience with at least 5 years of supervisory, code compliance, and enforcement experience.  Must have basic computer skills, including e-mailing, Microsoft Office, and have the ability to learn new computer software. A valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance, and good driving record are required. A background check and drug screening will be required prior to employment.

Compensation: The hourly rate is commensurate with experience.  Benefit package includes paid federal holidays, sick, vacation and personal leave, OPERS retirement program, and health, dental and life insurance.
