Public Health Nursing Supervisor

Division:   Nursing                                                                    

Pay Grade:   M/S/C - Exempt                                               

Salary:  Commensurate with experience                                               

Shift Times:  8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Mon-Thurs, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Fri.

                     May also work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays                           

Essential Functions of the Position:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing and in accordance with public health standards, practices and policies, assists in planning and implementing Agency programs, policies and procedures providing services within a generalized health district. Plans, evaluates, organizes and supervises Public Health nursing service programs including Clinic based services, implementing changes as needed to provide optimum service. Writes Clinic protocols and procedures. Delegates assignments to individual staff nurses. Provides orientation, evaluation, instruction and confers with staff under his/her supervision. Represents the agency at meetings and on committees. Collaborates with Director of Nursing on job candidate interviewing and hiring; transfers, suspensions, layoff, promotions, recalls, terminations, and disciplinary procedures. Works in tandem with the Director of Nursing to ensure optimal function of all public health nursing services. Participates in program planning and interagency coordination of services for Medicaid and Non-Medicaid activities. Actively participates in accreditation activities.

Qualifications:

Must have thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public health nursing including community health as well as of clinic operation and scheduling patterns. Knowledge of health administration and evidence of administrative skills. Applies Public Health Sciences in the delivery of preventive health, public health education, emergency preparedness and administration. Knowledge of community resources as related to public health; of nursing process and implementation in a community health setting. Ability to exercise independent judgment; plan, organize, direct and evaluate nursing services; establish priorities, set goals; effectively present facts both orally and in writing. A current Ohio RN license, BSN (or equivalent) with at least three years experience in community health nursing is required. Must have a valid Ohio drivers license and provide own transportation to perform professional duties.
