This position serves as an intermediate-level professional epidemiologist, responsible for carrying out a broad and complex range of investigative, analytical epidemiologic activities and spatial analyses of opioid related data, demographic and health data to evaluate opioid determinants and assess opioid overdose rates within defined populations and/or geographic areas. To obtain high quality, comprehensive, and timelier data on overdose morbidity and mortality, and to use those data to inform prevention and response efforts.
Duties Include:
Performs interdisciplinary research and analysis on opioid overdose deaths;
Conducts public health impact assessments and performs onsite review as appropriate;
Plans and conducts opioid public health investigations as part of the grant;
Designs, manipulates, and uses databases for analysis of opioid deaths to assess potential responses to this public health crisis;
Assists in creating an infrastructure for an innovative surveillance system that links de-identified health information;
Works to establish a county-wide surveillance approach for first responder and social service risk factor data related to opioid use disorder;
Executes ArcGIS apps and creates maps for visualization of data geographically;
Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A master’s degree with a focus in epidemiology and more than 2 years’ work experience in epidemiology in a public health agency OR
A doctoral-level degree in epidemiology OR
Non-epidemiology graduate degree with specific epidemiology training
Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software in mapping and spatial analysis of data
Non-smoker
Salary: $25.60/hour to $32.00/hour. This is a non-exempt position.
