MEDICAL DIRECTOR / HEALTH COMMISSIONER

POSITION INTRODUCTION

The Health Commissioner serves as the chief executive officer of the health department. In conjunction with the Board of Health, is responsible for delegating authority for the direct supervision of all staff and contract positions to the Administrator, the Chief Operating Officer.  The Ross County Board of Health delegates authority to the Health Commissioner and Administrator for operational decisions regarding personnel, program operations, and resources that ensure fiscal compliance as well as compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. The Health Commissioner and Administrator are the executive representatives of the department in the community and are the point of contact for elected officials.

OAC 3701-36-03 Minimum Standards (B) (6) (d) defines a Medical Director as a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine who is licensed to practice medicine in Ohio. The Medical Director is responsible for development and evaluation of standards of medical care throughout the department, providing medical direction and advising the department in matters of medical policy. This position within the department is currently integrated with the Health Commissioner position.
