Union County Health Department

Intermittent / Seasonal, Unclassified, Hourly, Non-Exempt. 37.50 hours per week, Monday – Friday with a maximum of 1,000 hours from date of hire through December 2019.

The pay range for this position is $17.18 - $23.24 per hour, based on experience. Funding for this position is provided by the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) program and levy dollars through December 2019.

Assist in assessments, sampling techniques, procedures, and investigation processes. Contact homeowners, operators, and/or officials to schedule appointments. Assess sites to ensure compliance with regulations, document findings in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, and follow up on violations to ensure compliance. Maintain professional relationship with clients, contractors, and other governmental officials. Prepare, document, and maintain accurate records (e.g., correspondence, permits, activity reports, mileage, investigation findings, etc.).   Enter inspection data into the agency’s Geographic Information System (GIS). Update records to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure Departmental records are maintained in accordance with applicable privacy laws, policies, and procedures. Participate in policy development for the division. Perform rabies control investigations; food borne, West Nile, or other illness investigations; health nuisance investigations and abatements; and rodent and other vector control inspections. Collect water and effluent samples; conduct investigations of safety hazards; perform operation permit assessments; and routine environmental health testing. Apply the Union County Health Department’s standardized methodology to enforce state and local laws and regulations for abatement of unsanitary conditions.

Must be detail oriented, organized, possess strong oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, and strong customer service skills. Must meet the eligibility requirements to be licensed as a Registered Sanitarian in Training in Ohio; be currently licensed as a Registered Sanitarian in Training in Ohio; or be currently licensed as a Registered Sanitarian in Ohio. A valid Ohio Driver’s License, valid auto liability insurance, the ability to maintain auto liability insurance, and the ability to maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy essential. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with assistance necessary. A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or a related health field, plus one (1) year of previous experience as a Sanitarian; and previous experience with Geographic Information Systems preferred.
