Flexible schedule for minimum of 100 – 140 internship hours starting in March 2019. Travel to various Union County schools required. This unpaid internship consists of two primary projects, with the potential for other projects in the Health Promotion & Planning division after completion of these two projects:
Project 1 = Community Health Assessment and Group Evaluation (CHANGE) Tool (60 – 80 hours). Under the direction of the Project Coordinator, schedule and conduct interviews with Union County businesses, school districts, and other community organizations regarding current health initiatives (including, but not limited to, current policies, environmental elements, and systems that impact health). Analyze and summarize interview data to generate a list for areas of improvement and potential strategies for future health-related projects. The unpaid intern will have the opportunity to propose next steps and strategies as well as gain experience in interviewing, data collection, evaluation, and application of data into actionable projects. If desired, the intern may also sit in on the grant writing process with the Project Coordinator to better understand how the data collected influences future work.
Project 2 = School BMI Evaluation (40 – 60 hours). Under the direction of the Director of Health Promotion and Planning, travel to various schools within Union County to collect school-based height, weight, and possible dietary data for the purposes of assessing trends in childhood obesity in Union County. The unpaid intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in data collection, data analysis, taking anthropometric measurements, and interviewing school staff and students as needed.
Must be detail oriented, organized, possess strong oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, and strong customer service skills. A valid Ohio Driver’s License, valid auto liability insurance, the ability to maintain auto liability insurance, and the ability to maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy are essential. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, move, or push objects, packages, boxes, or files weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with assistance. A High School diploma or equivalent, and current enrollment in an accredited college / university is required. Current enrollment or completion of entry level college course work in the field of health education or public health preferred.
